Mobile App Contest Rules

Please note these are the rules for the 2016-2017 App Contest. These are to give a general idea of what to expect, however they may be revised and updated for the 2017-2018 contest.

Eligibility

Entrants must be or have been enrolled in at least one class from August 1 through December 31. An unofficial transcript from UNM or CNM will be required upon submission of your app. 

Mobile Application Requirements

An eligible submission is defined as follows: “a mobile application that functions (i.e. loads or installs and runs on a mobile device), and is submitted by the deadline of January 6, 2017”. 

Scoring Parameters

  1. Definition and analysis of a problem your mobile app is addressing
  2. Functionality and features
  3. Use of open or sourced data feeds
  4. Originality and coherence (overall experience of application)
  5. Technical quality (application load, error-free, code stability)
  6. Professionalism (communication, demo day presentation) 

Submission Criteria

Submissions will be collected with the entrant sharing access to a cloud storage system (OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc…) that contains the following:

  1. Text document with the application title, contact information, description of the app
  2. Screen shots of application running on a device
  3. Source code, distribution binary or link to web site or app store download
  4. A READ ME file with Installation instructions, test accounts and other info
  5. Slide deck for Demo Day pitch session
  6. Short bio on the developer/team (optional)
  7. Video demo or introduction (optional)

Judging & Winners

After submitting your app, you will be contacted to schedule a demo day session, where you will give a short pitch for your app and ideas. Judges will score based on the above parameters and then deliberate for final scoring. While winners will be required to attend the awards ceremony, all entrants are invited to participate to celebrate the work done and network with peers, faculty, vendors and other interested parties. 

Intellectual Property and Ownership

We intend that the intellectual and commercial property right remain with the entrants and winners. However, we ask to have rights to use images, names and screen shots for marketing and promotional purposes.
