Seventeen students worked hard to develop mobile applications with the help of UNM last Fall, and some of them have thousands of dollars to show for it today. UNM's Mobile Application Development Contest, sponsored by UNM Information Technologies (IT), Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, is a contest to create a mobile application using data from UNM's new Open Data Event Repository. Apps were developed for Windows Mobile, iOS, Android, or HTML5 mobile web. Programming assistance for the participants was provided by both the IT department and Computer Science staff at UNM, and the software is now licensed to the University for use by IT and campus-wide. The winners, Jerrick Morsey and TJ Seaman, who developed a Windows Mobile application, were awarded $5,000. Other participants won cash and technology prizes (see list below).

Second place: Benjamin Lande - $2,500 prize 
Third place: Eric Hahn - $1,000 prize 
Fourth place: N'Djamena Marmon - Apple iPad air 
Fifth place: Tenzin Lekden Lungtok - Samsung Galaxy Tab

Other participants in the contest, who were awarded a Google Chomecast streaming media device: John Ericksen, John Barr, Torran Kahleck, Andrew Yoder, Marin Decaudaveine, Joel Mora, Averi Nicole Easley, Nicholas Antonio, Malika Ladha, Andrew Golden, and Joanna Gardner.
